Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!
So, we headed into our fourth round of the final Eclectic Series of 2023. This is traditionally the moving round in the race for the Blue Jacket and it didn't disappoint! A total of 44 players came out to enjoy the fun including some new faces and some we hadn't seen for a while. So, a big welcome to Peraphon Pra and Santi Miller and a welcome back to Eric Mary back from his travels.
The course had certainly seen some rain over the past few days as it looked even more green than usual - and better for it for sure - and there were threats of it seeing even more rain during the afternoon. However, all was good as we set of through our usual semi shotgun start and play progressed reasonably well for about 12 holes or so. It was then that a pretty heavy storm came through which turned a few of the greens into lakes but, fortunately, the storm passed after around 40 minutes, the greens drained very quickly and play resumed. Only a few thought it too risky to resume but for the other 90% play was completed in good time. Great credit to the quality of the course in seeing how quickly it drained with the greens not really losing too much of their pace.
There was a bit of excitement on the course during the round. While attempting to chip onto the 16th green Paul Barnett was unwittingly part of Chris Barnett reaching a lifetime milestone. Chris' tee shot off 18 veered straight right, over the 17th tee box and hit Paul on the hop in the fairway. Chris had been stuck on 29 for 7 years and this shot got him to 30 players hit. To add a bit of icing on the cake Paul was his 2nd Barnett. Chris' father was a victim years ago.
In all seriousness, as we have mentioned recently, always be aware of what is going on around you on the course. Is your music too loud keeping you from hearing things?Despite the shouts of "awas" and "fore" from Chris and his group, Paul did not hear and only saw the ball coming at the last minute. Luckily this was only an amusing story but it could have been a lot worse.
Anyway, back to the more regular play; Renny Verdenal and Roger Finnie hit very accurate tee shots on the Par 3's taking the Nearest to the Pin prizes as did Claudio Ghelli and Daniel Park to take the Drive & Pitch honours. Nic Verdenal and Santi Miller took the Longest Drive prizes - interesting to note that Renny, Nic, Roger and Shanti were all in the same flight!
John Gustke kept up his prize winning streak taking the Putting Champion prize this week with Alberto Gonzales winning his first Lowest Gross prize - good to see a new face taking that honour!
Steve Lowry had to settle for the Booby Prize cricket bat - just in case you can't recognize the face behind the bat in the photo below, with Marc Desilets taking the Most Exercise Trophy - it must have had something to do with that shirt - or whatever it is - see the photo below top center.
With 4 players on 39 points, it took a count back to determine the top 2 with Kitti Au taking the Runner Up spot and Andrew Goode taking the Little Dog - or he will at least next week, the Wine Cartel bottle - which he left at the course (don't worry Andrew, I have it in safe keeping) to be this week's Champion.
A big congratulations to all this week's winners.
So, as we mentioned above, the fourth week in the Eclectic is invariably moving week and this week did not disappoint. Jude has now extended his lead over Nic with 1.0 now separating them, up from 0.1 from last week. Alberto has moved into third place a full 1.0 behind second. So, from last week where there was only 1.1 separating the top 5, this week we see 2.0 separating the top 3. There's still 2 rounds to go and anything can still happen - will the winner come out of this week's top 3 or will someone leapfrog the lot to take the Blue Jacket?
You can see the full Eclectic results on the Leaderboard page or in the myGolf2u app as usual.

As a player is about to replace their ball on the green, they accidentally drop the ball on their ball marker which causes the marker to move.
What is the ruling?
A - There is no penalty and the ball or ball marker must be replaced on its
original spot.
B - The player gets two penalty strokes and the ball or ball marker must be
replaced on its original spot.
C - The player gets one penalty stroke and the ball or ball marker must be
replaced on its original spot.

What is the ruling?
A - There is no penalty.
B - You get one penalty stroke.
C - You get the general penalty.

A - You get two penalty strokes.
B - There is no penalty provided you play from within the teeing area.
C - You are disqualified.
Correct answer A
Explanation: In stroke play, if a player who is starting a hole plays a ball from outside the teeing area, the player gets the general penalty (two penalty strokes) and must correct the mistake by playing a ball from inside the teeing area.
In a singles match, player A concedes player B's short putt for a 4. Player B then attempts to hole out and misses the putt.

B - Player B loses the hole.
C - Player A can withdraw the concession and B is considered to have holed out
in 5.
