The D.O.G.S. and TeeSet Weekend at Rancamaya Golf & Country Club

Updated: 16 hours ago

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

So we came to the big weekend at Rancamaya which included the final round of the Eclectic, the annual matchplay with our friends from TeeSet, the big dinner and party evening on the Saturday and then the Vegas Scramble on Sunday - a lot to pack in and try and survive!

So, let's kick things off with the Saturday game: The final round of the Eclectic Series and the annual matchplay against our old rivals, TeeSet, for the much coveted Juergen Degert Trophy which was won by TeeSet last year - could Captain Dougie's team win it back and "bring it home"?

Before we get to that we had a number of new faces to welcome with Arvid & Yati Brauti, Rich Blando, Veronica Lukito and Stefan Skibinski as well as the great guys back from PT Delta Djakarta Tbk who again kept us all well hydrated with vast quantities of both Anker and San Miguel as well as a number of raffle prizes - thanks again guys!

So, let's start with the final eclectic round results: with a huge turnout of 82 players we certainly needed a good shotgun start - which we got. However, the rains came which saw some people heading back to the club house but by far the majority of players finished their rounds in good time - and certainly on time to get ready for the evening festivities.

A good spread of winners this week: Steve Sutton and Roberto took the Nearest to the Pin prizes with Brian Hernandez and Jaakko Valli also showing their ability to get close to the pin taking the Drive & Pitch prizes. For a change, no Longest Drive for Anirudh this week - those honours went to Jaakko and Steve Sutton.

Chris Barnett had his flat stick working taking the Putting Champion prize. The ladies took the honours for enjoying the damp afternoon more than other with Jane Finnie and Kitty Siriwat taking the Booby and Most Exercise Trophies home.

Carter Cross - the youngest player in the field - managed to shoot better than anyone winning the Lowest Gross prize on the day and another greatly improved player, Paul Eckhardt got closer to the top by winning the Runner Up prize. Remon Moerman who we only really see when we're down this part of the world had the best Stableford score of anyone over the six weeks winning the Little Dog as the Weekly Champion.

Now to the matchplay: some tough matches on paper this time as TeeSet were confident they could retain the trophy. Both sides put up strong teams and the pairings are always based on trying to match the team handicaps hoping to make for close matches. So could the mighty D.O.G.S. win back the trophy they have held for 7 out of the 10 years it's been running. The answer was a resounding YES! Captain Dougie's Team triumphed 16 points to 8. You can see the full results below:

Now to the Eclectic Results in the race for the Big Dog and the Blue Jacket. Anirudh had led right from the start and his strong position at the top prevailed. There was a lot of movement below him so the full final order wasn't known until right to the end. Anirudh, not surprisingly, also took the Low Gross Average trophy! You can check out the full results here.

Over the six weeks we had run the Charity Barrel in aid of the Sanctuary of Sumatran Tigers Barumun (TSB) where you donated the great amount of IDR 7,565,000

So, could anybody survive the evening festivities? We decided to hold the party in the main restaurant area due the large number with 70 staying for the dinner, raffle draw and live music - organised by Craig Ewers. Lots's of winners - especially Claudio who kept the girls table well supplied with all the bottles he won. Golden rule: if you win a bottle you can't take it home! Oh, and talking of not taking things home - it seems Gary Millburn managed to lose a tooth during his dancing and, despite everyone combing the dance floor trying to find it - no luck...he had to go home toothless - well done and I suppose being toothless is better than being clueless!!!

So there were a few tired and sore heads on Sunday ready for the Vegas Scramble. Nine teams competed and were ready to roll the dice. Some good scores, as shown below, with the Asian Zebra's taking the first prize and Paul and the girls being runner's up. A great afternoon in absolutely gorgeous sunshine - it took six weeks!

A big congratulations to all our winners this weekend.

As you know, the weekend was all about raising money for the Panti Asuhan Kristen Kerena Doa Orphanage in Sawangan near Depok. This is our third year we have supported them - check out the details on the Charity Page. This year you donated both from the Raffle and the game fees for the Sunday Scramble IDR20,000,000.

We will be arranging a visit to present the donation, and we would strongly recommend as many of you as possible join us for that visit - it's well worth the trip down south just to see how much they appreciate our support.

Next weekend the D.O.G.S. are taking a well earned break. We return to play the following weekend at a venue much closer for most players. As usual, please sign up early and let Rod know your preferred playing partners.
