D.O.G.S. Antepenultimate Round at Rancamaya Golf & Country Club

Hail the D.O.G.S.!!!!!

What a strange day weather-wise. Beautiful sunny skies greeted the D.O.G.S. arriving at the course but foreboding clouds were gathering as 49 golfers headed to the tee boxes for our shotgun start, and with the course being relatively quiet in the morning, everything was on time . As expected the rains arrived within a few holes, however only a light shower fell. Unfortunately it lasted for most of the round. Despite this the pace was fast with most golfers finishing around the 4 hour mark. Some golfers suffered a heavy downpour during their last holes. This was made up for by finding delicious cold beverages in the clubhouse courtesy of San Miguel. Even with the rain we were afforded spectacular views of Gunung Salak throughout the day. This photo sums up the weather quite well.

So, out of the 49 players we had some newcomers. guests and some faces we haven't seen for a while: so a big welcome to Sang Hyuk Kwak and Minchul Kang and welcome back to Jeff Durham, Lukas Musial, Bastian Armbruster and Terry Tyler, always good to see some new and old faces back again.

So, to the play, and a good spread of winners this week with Jude Alexander and Andrew Humphreys taking the Nearest to the Pin prizes. Anirudh only managed one of the Longest Drive prizes this time with Andrew Goode taking the other - some feat that! Steve Sutton and Roger Finnie took the Drive & Pitch prizes. Roger was back to being "the Dodger" this week reclaiming the Putting Champion prize - a pretty good achievement given the fact the greens had been spiked since last week so it shows the pitching and chipping skills to be able to win Low Putts!

Jens Muller enjoyed the rather damp conditions more than the rest of us taking both the Booby and Most Exercise Trophies home. Anirudh managed his third 75 gross in a row taking the Low Gross prize and securing a probably unbeatable lead for the Low Gross Average, even though there's still 36 holes to go!

There was a winning table sitting relaxing after golf with Roger, Anirudh, Ella - Roger's visiting daughter and Hitoshi. Hitoshi was wondering if he would go home empty handed, but no - he won the Runner Up prize. This left the flying Finn, Jari Antikainen to sweep in and take the Little Dog home as this week's Champion - with the highest points score so far this series. At last, someone has broken Chris Barnett's winning streak although he's likely to hold on to the "3 in a row" record for some time!

Having mentioned Roger's daughter, Ella, we presented her with a Dogs Coffee Mug as a memento of her visit.

A big congratulations to all our winners this week.

So, with four rounds now complete, Anirudh remains at the top with one improvement this week - yet another birdie - but there has been movement below in the chasing pack with plenty of room to improve still there. So, it's still open for someone to take the glory over the final 36 holes! You can checkout the full results here.

A forewarning to all - the final week at Rancamaya will be the annual D.O.G.S. & TeeSet weekend with the match play on the Saturday and the Charity Scramble on the Sunday. In between there will be dinner in the club house on the Saturday evening. Those wishing to stay at the R Hotel should make their own arrangements please - good idea to book early.
